Snowflake screen refers to the lack of clarity in the LCD display of a laptop. The screen looks gray against a white background, like frosted glass, not bright but very dazzling, and the visual perception of the screen is very uneven; There is a noticeable flicker in the gray image background; Browsing through colorful images looks like there are many bubbles or some details with snowflakes.
According to netizens, the "snowflake screen" issue on HP laptops is mainly concentrated on some models that appeared after October 2007, including multiple models such as the 520, V3776, and V3803. And most of these laptops that produce the "snowflake screen" phenomenon use the LTN141w1-L04 LCD screen produced by Samsung Electronics. It is understood that most of the LCD screens of this model were produced by Samsung between 2005 and 2006, and have now been discontinued. The main reason for the shutdown is that the LCD production technology at that time was not advanced enough, and the processing of grayscale restoration was not good, so it is easy to have the problem of displaying snowflakes.
It has been more than a year since the first case of "Snowflake Screen" complaint was exposed, and complaints about "Snowflake Screen" laptops still frequently appear on major websites in China. So far, nearly 300 consumers have complained only on the IT channel of People's Daily. However, HP has been unable to provide satisfactory solutions to the problems that have arisen with these laptops, which has disappointed many users. Some consumers who are considering purchasing HP laptops have changed their original intentions and switched to purchasing products from other brands.
