In 1989, Cambridge University invented the light-emitting polymer LEP, and then the Cambridge Display Technology Company CDT developed the polymer light-emitting display based on LEP. CDT has always been a leader in the research and commercialization of PLED. Currently, companies that have obtained CDT technology licenses include Philips, Seiko Epson, OSRAM, and Delta Electronics, among others. These companies mainly produce monochrome or multicolor passive matrix displays for mobile communication and handheld devices.

As the next generation flat panel display, its advantages are: self illumination, no need for backlight, polarizer, or color filter; High contrast, easy to read even in bright environments; A 180 degree perspective; Low DC battery voltage drive less than 5 volts; Fast switching speed (1 microsecond), image display not blurry, not trailing, and not affected by temperature; Ultra thin, high portability; Simple structure and process, suitable for large screens and flexible displays; High resolution image display can be obtained.
Currently, CDT and Seiko Epson have jointly developed an NTSC color TV with a resolution of 2.85 inches and 100 pixels per inch. This product can represent 260000 colors, with 64 levels of grayscale (each color) and a brightness of 100cd/m2.
